Congratulations to Lori Deitte, MD, Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, who has recently graduated from the Leading, Empowering and Disrupting (LEAD) Program, a joint leadership program of the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments’ (SCARD) and GE Healthcare. She was among 23 emerging leaders from radiology and industry selected to participate in the 2021-2022 Lead Program.
A yearlong program, LEAD is designed for women in mid-career levels or beyond who have demonstrated strong leadership skills, as well as an expressed interest in pursuing leadership roles within their respective organizations. In addition to increasing the number of women in leadership roles, the overall goal of the LEAD Program is to “create an opportunity for healthcare providers and industry to align around similar diversity challenges and opportunities.”
As part of the programming, Dr. Deitte participated in monthly virtual training, and a combination of live and virtual meetings, mentorship and networking events. Lucy Spalluto, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Radiology and Vice Chair of Health Equity, previously graduated from the LEAD 2019-2020 cohort. Dr. Spalluto shares that “the mentorship and networking opportunities are unparalleled.”
“The LEAD program is an innovative leadership program that empowers women at the intersection of industry and medicine,” said Dr. Deitte. “This was a tremendous opportunity to further develop my leadership skills, particpate in new mentorship opportunities and collaborate with the other LEAD participants.”
Dr. Deitte joined the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) faculty in 2015 as the Vice Chair of Education. A proven exceptional leader within the department, institution and nationally, particularly in medical education and faculty development, she was appointed as the VUMC Vice President for Continuous Professional Development with the Office of Health Science Education in April 2021.
“Dr. Deitte’s background places her in a unique position to share real-time perspectives on leadership challenges and opportunities in a complex organization,” said Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair, Department of Radiology. “Her experiences combined with her innovative leadership skills have bolstered her continued leadership trajectory, and I am honored to work alongside her continued success.”
Outside of Vanderbilt, Dr. Deitte has held multiple leadership positions including the President of the Association of Program Directors in Radiology (APDR), the Chair of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Commission on Publications and Lifelong Learning and member of the ACR Board of Chancellors. Additionally, Dr. Deitte was the recipient of the APDR Achievement Award at the annual Association of University Radiologists meeting earlier this year.
