A new publication co-authored by Erin Cooke, MD, VUMC residents and a VUSM student focuses on the benefits and drawbacks of virtual interviews for residency recruitment. As the world continues towards a post-Vaccine era, many medical departments may begin to reassess their pandemic-related procedures, including virtual interviews.
Erin Cooke, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director, joined with residents Jennifer Huang, MD, MEd, Heather Cole, MD, as well as VUSM student Emily Brenner, BS, to review current literature about virtual interviews for radiology residencies.
“We hope our piece in Academic Radiology is useful to radiology departments and future residents as we look toward the future of interviewing and matching processes,” says Dr. Cooke.
The article, titled “Virtual Interviewing for Radiology Residency: Pluses, Minuses, and A Review of the Literature,” takes a wide view of the decision to conduct virtual or in-person resident interviews and the effects in promoting accessibility, applicant diversity, and other challenges that might arise.
Dr. Cooke, Dr. Huang, Dr. Cole, and Brenner all contributed to the publication. The article was also co-authored by Pauline Germaine, DO, and Alex Zhang, BS, from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, and Tara Catanzano, MD, from University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School-Baystate.
