VUMC Radiology is proud to share its vision for our new and fully-operational location in Nashville’s Green Hills—located at 3841 Green Hills Village Drive—which had its ribbon cut in 2023. The new radiology center further expands our commitment to exceptional patient care and advancing medical education—and is a substantial addition to VUMC radiology facilities.
This 3,500 square foot state-of-the-art office serves as a hub for radiology reading rooms and education for residents and fellows—including the sleekly designed Spottswood Educational Theatre.

Pendergrass Professor and Chair of Radiology. “The Green Hills location represents a significant milestone in our growth, enabling us to enhance our capabilities to train and grow the future of radiology—as well as expand our clinical reach geographically.”
The Green Hills flexible reading room space will be equipped with the latest technology, advanced imaging systems and house up to 40 workstations. The core office space will host experts within the specialties of Body Imaging, Cardiothoracic Imaging, Musculoskeletal Radiology, and Neuroradiology. The facility will ensure that our dedicated team can efficiently analyze and interpret medical images to support informed treatment decisions. This applies not only to our adult hospital in Nashville, but our ever-expanding regional footprint through our Community Radiology Division, which provides care throughout Middle Tennessee.
VUMC Radiology is also proud to dedicate a substantial portion of the facility to educational space in the form of the Radiology Education Command Center, which caters to the training needs of residents.
"Educating our resident trainees in a workspace specifically designed to foster a culture of collaboration and wellness were the foundational tenants of the Green Hills expansion,” says Laveil Allen, MD, Executive Vice Chair of VUMC Radiology. “We are extremely excited to launch this new era of resident education within our department."
The educational space features a corner office reserved for trainees—coined the Rad Ed Studio—meant to foster a collaborative and dynamic learning environment. The office also features the Radiology Resident Refueling Station, offering coffee, tea and snacks. Just steps away is another creative workspace, the Strategic Design Studio, where residents and faculty can collaborate on “ideas that matter.”
Through interactive sessions, case studies, and advanced training modules, we aim to empower the next generation of radiologists. Initiatives will be driven by an educational task force, led by Lori Deitte, MD, Vice Chair of Education and Professor of Radiology, and Taylor Davis, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Section Chief of Neuroradiology.
Another highlight of our new location is the resident theatre, specially designed to provide an immersive and engaging learning experience for trainees. Named for the first African American resident at VUMC Radiology—Stephanie Spottswood, MD, MSPH—the Spottswood Education Theatre will host interactive lectures, training seminars, and other educational events, ensuring that our residents receive comprehensive and stimulating training. The facility also features a kitchen and additional snack center, and ample parking for the VUMC Radiology team.
The opening of the VUMC Radiology location at Green Hills represents a new chapter in our department’s development as we march towards Radiology 2030. We are excited to welcome faculty, residents, and fellows to experience all the new facility has to offer.
