Research Opportunities
In addition to the formal research courses offered as a part of the required curriculum of the third and fourth years of the medical student curriculum, the Department of Radiology has numerous and changing opportunities for Vanderbilt medical students who are interested in participating in basic science, translational and clinical research related to radiology and medical imaging. With the eleventh-highest level of NIH funding for a radiology department (2019 rankings), our department offers an excellent environment for students seeking these kinds of experiences.
Different projects and teams have openings for medical students at different times during the year and during the course of funding. Students interested in pursuing a research opportunity are encouraged to contact faculty in our department who have experience with and interest in working with medical students to find more information. Some of our involved faculty include:
- Dan Brown, MD (Interventional Radiology/Interventional Oncology)
- Jeff Carr, MD (Cardiovascular/Information Technology)
- Taylor Davis, MD (Neuroradiology)
- Arthur Fleischer, MD (Ultrasound)
- Sumit Pruthi, MD (Pediatric Radiology)
- Kim Sandler, MD (Lung Cancer Screening/Cardiothoracic Imaging)
