Todd Peterson, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and faculty in the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science, recently received a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of its Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists program.
The DAAD is a publicly funded German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. It offers exchange programs and provides funding for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and others in higher education, promotes Germany as an academic and research destination and helps to build ties between institutions.
As part of the program, Peterson will spend 11 weeks this summer collaborating with investigators in the Center for Particle Physics at the University of Siegen in Germany to explore the potential for imaging high-energy gamma rays based on detection of Cherenkov radiation. He says that if the research is successful, it would have potential applications for internal dosimetry in various radionuclide therapies and range verification in proton therapy.
Peterson’s research interests include the development of high-resolution nuclear imaging technologies, and preclinical and clinical applications of CT, PET and SPECT in oncology, pharmacology and diabetes.
