We had a busy week at the annual Association of University Radiologists (AUR) annual meeting this month in New Orleans!
Nine of our faculty, including our Chairman Reed Omary, Vice Chair of Education Lori Deitte, Associate Vice Chair of Diversity Stephanie Spottswood, Program Director Edwin Donnelly, Associate Program Director Chris Baron, Lucy Spalluto, Rick Abramson, Taylor Davis and Sudha Singh all attended the meeting, participating in a variety of organizations and programs, including the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments (SCARD), the Association of Program Directors in Radiology (APDR), the Alliance of Clinician-Educators in Radiology (ACER), the Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER), the Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research (RAHSR), the Radiology Research Alliance (RRA), the AUR Academic Faculty Development Program, the innovations in Academic Radiology Program, the Radiology Management Program and the Teaching Certificate Program.
Our residents were also well-represented, with five in attendance. Dave Johnson, Allison Johnsen, and Michael Nichols participated in the A3CR2 program designed to provide leadership education to chief residents and allow chief residents to network and problem solve. Liz Gadwood presented an educational exhibit "Hysterosalpinography: A Pictorial Review." And Adam Militana presented a poster "Alternative Treatment of Extra-Abdominal Desmoid Tumors with Image-Guided Percutaneous Cryoablation Therapy, that he co-authored with Brent Roach.
Additionally, one of our students, Nikita Lakomkin, attended and received the "AMSER Henry Goldberg Medical Student Award" for research he did with Dr. Abramson.
Finally, on the light side, "team Vanderbilt" took third place in the annual Vydareny Image Interpretation Competition, just shy of our goal of second place which is the highest you can get without having to run the competition for the following year.
Nikita Lakomkin, an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt, has won the 2015 Henry Goldberg Medical Student Award from the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) for his work on CT biomarkers of cancer treatment response. Nikita is shown here with faculty mentor, Rick Abramson MD, from the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.
