We are thrilled to welcome Aravind Arepally, M.D. as an Adjunct Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. In his new role, Dr. Arepally will apply his vast experience with medical devices, FDA regulation, and entrepreneurship to help foster innovation for our Vanderbilt trainees and faculty.

Dr. Arepally obtained a degree in mathematics and the Great Books program from Mercer University. He went on to obtain his MD at Emory University School of Medicine and continued residency and chief residency in Radiology at Emory University Hospital. He went to Johns Hopkins for a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology and joined the faculty in 2000.
As faculty, Dr. Aravind Arepally served as Associate Professor of Radiology & Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutes. In addition, he was Clinical Director for the Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design, with a research focus on the development of embolics and cellular delivery for the treatment of diabetes and obesity.
In 2009, Dr. Arepally left Johns Hopkins and moved back to his native state of Georgia. While in Atlanta, he co-founded Surefire Medical, a company dedicated for developing catheters and devices for embolization. In addition, Dr. Arepally has coordinated with research labs at Duke University and Johns Hopkins to develop novel embolic platforms including advanced delivery catheter systems, embolic beads for targeted delivery, and new clinical applications such as Bariatric Embolization.
Currently, Dr. Arepally is a practicing Interventional Radiologist at Piedmont Healthcare and active researcher with significant experience in clinical care, clinical trials and translational research. His research has resulted in clinical translation with several “first in man” events, FDA approvals and the holder of multiple patents.
He has authored more than 150 papers, books, and abstracts, and has been a principal investigator or co-investigator on more than 15 grants (5 NIH). Dr. Arepally is the recipient of numerous national awards and grants for his research in the field of MRI, device development and embolization applications. He has also lectured nationally and internationally on minimally invasive therapies.
