Victoria Morgan, Ph.D., associate professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, has been named to serve as a member of the Neuroscience and Ophthalmic Imaging Technologies Study Section in the Center for the Scientific Review (CSR) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She will serve a four-year term.
Morgan, also an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has participated in extensive research about the pre-surgical application of functional MRI in Epilepsy.
The study section reviews grant applications submitted to NIH, makes recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and surveys the status of research in their fields of science.
Morgan was chosen on the basis of her “demonstrated competence and achievement in her scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors,” according to Richard Nakamura, Ph.D., director of the Center for Scientific Review.
At Vanderbilt, Morgan’s research focuses on bringing new imaging methods to patient care. She currently directs projects using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to study brain activity, specifically seizure activity in epilepsy, and to quantify brain changes after mild traumatic brain injury.
This research will develop and use imaging, computational, informatics, and biophysical approaches for studying fundamental problems in neuroscience.
