Courtney Tomblinson, MD, is an honors graduate of Western Kentucky University and earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Mayo Clinic, during which she served as Chief Resident and received the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow award (2017). In 2018, Dr. Tomblinson was awarded the ACR Valerie P. Jackson Education Fellowship. In 2022-2023, she served as a JACR Bruce J. Hillman Fellow in Scholarly Publishing.


After completing a fellowship in Neuroradiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), she joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2019 as an Assistant Professor. On July 1, 2024, Dr. Tomblinson was promoted to Associate Professor. Dr. Tomblinson previously served as Associate Program Director, Diagnostic Radiology Residency and as the Neuroradiology Fellowship Program Director. 


As the Assistant Director for the Vanderbilt Educator Development Program, Dr. Tomblinson supports and advances the medical education community across the institution through faculty development initiatives such as the EDP Scholars Program, EDP Workshops, and Educator Consult Service. Previously, she served as Chair of the American Society of Neuroradiology's Young Professional Society. 


Dr. Tomblinson's clinical interests include head and neck cancer imaging, temporal bone imaging, and cranial nerve imaging. Her other professional interests and scholarly work focuses on utilization of technology in medical education where she is considered a national leader in the field. Both through her X/Twitter account (@cmtomblinson) and in her roles as Contributing Editor to Social Media and Digital Innovation for Radiographics, on the JACR Editorial Board, and as past Chair of the ASHNR Website and Social Media Committee, she develops and implements new educational content in the digital space. As previous AJNR Podcast Editor, Dr. Tomblinson disseminated knowledge about cutting edge Neuroradiology research and clinical applications through author interviews from recently published journal articles.
