Welcome

Over the last decade, Dr. Schoenecker and his team have built a multi-disciplinary research program to address some of the most pressing issues in orthopedic surgery including traumatic injuries, infections, cancer, and musculoskeletal development. The findings have played a critical role in improving treatments for our patients, which has provided hope and healing to patients and their families.

Aligning with these goals, we have established a synergistic musculoskeletal translational education and research program. Referred to broadly as the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Translational Education and Research (VOTER) group, this program is a central hub that promotes cross-fertilization of ideas and training between medical trainees, clinicians, and scientists to advance orthopaedic surgery.

VOTER likewise functions as an incubator for mentoring the next generation of physicians and physician-scientists. We believe that this model not only produces the best science, but also creates an environment of collaboration that provides students with a foundation of teamwork that is essential for clinical care.
