The AETC Program and its multiple components work together and serve as a comprehensive training and educational resource for health care providers in the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
The SE AETC region is comprised of eight states representing 19.7% of the US population and 24% of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
The South has the highest rate of new infections in the country as well as some of the worst health metrics. The region is home to 208,195 PLWHA, 982 hospitals, 892 rural health clinics, 196 federally qualified healthcare centers (FQHCs), 74,096 primary care physicians, 134 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) recipients, and two of three Historically Black Medical Schools in the US.
