October 2023
Charlie Ferreri, PGY1
I know you've been a very busy intern, but how has your move to Nashville been?
The move has been good! I have enjoyed checking out different restaurants and bars, but I definitely have lots more exploring to do. Looking forward to going to my first Titans game and want to find some fun nature activities as well.
Also, I got to see a lot of great concerts this past Summer like John Mayer x2, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Khalid
You did a Sub-I here at Vanderbilt last year so I imagine you are somewhat familiar with Vanderbilt Urology. Is there anything that has surprised you about Vanderbilt now that you are an integral part of the service?
I was fortunate enough to meet the Vandy Uro family prior to starting and get a feel for the flow of the residency, but one thing I didn't realize, and something I am so thankful for, is how closely I get to work with Lily and Laura! They are so helpful and fun to spend time with. We hit the jackpot when it comes to them.
What are your favorite cases in Urology so far?
I imagine I'll end up doing pediatrics so I've always been a sucker for a orchiopexy or a pyeloplasty. I'm looking forward to getting some hands on practice with the robot as well because seeing those cases is always exciting as well.
We all know you are an excellent baker. You spoil us with your frequent homemade chocolate chip cookie deliveries to the workroom. When did you get into baking and what is your favorite thing to bake?
I grew up baking with my mom. It was always a fun way for us to spend time together. My favorite thing to make is a cheesecake!
It looks like you've spent your whole life in Michigan. Tell me a little about your family? Is anyone else in medicine?
My mom and dad both met out in California and that's where me and my older brother were born, but we relocated to Michigan to be closer to family when I was very young. I grew up in a small farm town on a lake. My brother and I grew up playing ice hockey too. He is an ED attending back in Michigan. Sometimes on rides home from the hospital he will tell me all about the urological problems he worked up (and didn't have to consult urology) and then I'll tell him about the times I would run down to ED as well. It's interesting to hear the perspective on the other side of the consult.
Also, I have a nephew named Tommy who is four and a niece named Maizze Blue who is two. I love being an uncle and they are the cutest!
What's your favorite kind of food, and do you have any favorite restaurants here in Nashville?
I love all food, frankly too much so. If I had to pick I would say pizza. If you have any recommendations for the best pizza in town please send me way!
Do you have any particular interests within the field of urology?
Pediatrics!
Any hidden talents that we should be aware of?
I think I already peaked by talking about my baking.
Rapid Fire!
If you could meet anyone, who would it be? Taylor Swift, either of the Obamas, Rihanna, or Christy Peterson
Favorite outdoor activity? Hiking
Recent Netflix binge? I just finished the first season of American Horror Story and now that I think about it I think that's actually on Hulu? But I love watching any sort of thriller/murder mystery type show.
Favorite vacation destination? My parents are snowbirds and have a house in Wildwood, Florida. I love going to visit them whenever I can. We play lots of pickleball, golf, swim in the pool, go out to lots of restaurants, and just spend some quality time together. My first vacation is coming up and I can't wait to go visit them. I also went to Italy this summer and it was my first time in Europe. I can't wait to go back!
Beach or mountain life? Both please!
Favorite holiday? Christmas
