Oracle Security Alert

Oracle has sent the following security alert. The alert affects Oracle Database (which we sell through the Software Store): Security Alert: Oracle Security Alert for CVE-2011-5035 that was originally released on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 has been updated to announce additional products that are impacted by this vulnerability through their use of affected components. Oracle strongly recommends applying Security Alert fixes as soon as possible. The Security Alert Advisory is the starting point for relevant information.

Microsoft Changes Student Select

The Microsoft Student Select program offers discounted pricing to Vanderbilt employees and students for personal use copies of Microsoft software. Microsoft Launches New DreamSpark Program

Microsoft has changed its DreamSpark Program. The original program provided college students with free access to Microsoft development and design products. The new program is subscription based. Institutions can buy a one or three-year subscription to DreamSpark or DreamSpark Premium. DreamSpark Premium replaces the MSDN-Academic Alliance program. Microsoft Service Provider License Agreement Program

The Software Store has received questions regarding whether or not the university and medical center can use software licensed through Vanderbilt’s Microsoft contracts for commercial purposes. We have consulted with Microsoft and Microsoft has verified we cannot use our Campus or Select Agreement software for commercial use. Instead, Microsoft requires us to participate in the Microsoft Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA) program.

Adobe Creative Suite 6 Free Upgrade Offer

The Software Store expects Adobe to release Creative Suite 6 (CS6) on April 23rd. Vanderbilt Software Store customers with active maintenance on their Adobe software will be eligible for a free upgrade to CS6. In addition, customers who buy CS5.5 products through the Software Store between March 26 and May 5, 2012 will qualify for a free upgrade to CS6. Adobe’s offer does not apply to Acrobat or Contribute. The Software Store will place a free download in the Software Store accounts of eligible customers as soon as we gain access to CS6.

Matlab 2012a Available

Mathworks recently announced the release of MATLAB 2012a. R2012a includes new features in MATLAB and Simulink, along with updates and bug fixes to 77 other products.

Changes to ITS Enterprise SSL Certificate Service

GeoTrust, the Software Store’s supplier for Enterprise SSL certificates, has sent the following alert: The following changes address industry standards recently adopted by the Certification Authority/Browser (CAB) Forum, and will go into effect in mid-April: 1.Subject Common Name (CN) in Subject Alternative Name (SAN) field entries: During enrollment, the GeoTrust system detects if the CN is already part of the SAN field. For no additional cost, we will automatically add the CN in a SAN field if it is not already included.

Microsoft Launches New Office Purchase Program for Higher Education Employees and Students

Coming soon, higher education faculty, staff and students will be eligible to buy Office 2010 and Office 2011 for personal use through a new program called Microsoft Office University 2010 & Office for Mac University 2011. Pricing is unknown at this time, but the estimated retail price is $99. Vanderbilt employees and students will be able to order and download Office University products through the Vanderbilt Software Store.

Change in Microsoft Student Select Program

Starting April 1, 2012, Vanderbilt students and employees will no longer be able to buy the products listed below through the Microsoft Student Select Program: oMicrosoft Office oMicrosoft Windows 7 Upgrade oMicrosoft Expressions Studio This means Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff will no longer be able to place orders for these products through the Vanderbilt Software Store (http://vanderbilt.onthehub.com) under the Students/Microsoft Select tab and the Faculty/Staff/Microsoft Select tab respectively.
