VUMC Radiology welcomes Jose Maldonado, MD, MHA, to our team as an Assistant Professor with our Cardiothoracic Imaging section.
Dr. Maldonado is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree and completed his diagnostic radiology residency. He attended the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology with Washington University at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic imaging.
After training, Dr. Maldonado returned to San Juan in 2009 to join the University of Puerto Rico SOM as Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging and the Puerto Rico Medical Center as a staff radiologist. He also served as a staff radiologist with the Cardiovascular Center of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, becoming the Radiologist-in-Chief for the center in 2014.
In 2020, Dr. Maldonado was named the Chief of the Diagnostic Radiology Section and the Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at the University of Puerto Rico SOM.
A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Maldonado has proven himself as an expert and leader in cardiothoracic imaging. He has given countless lectures and grand rounds on the subject, and has presented scientific exhibit across the globe with societies such as the European Congress of Radiology, Sociedad Española de Imagen Cardiotorácica, and RSNA.
