Third-year diagnostic radiology resident Courtney Raybon, M.D., was named Chair of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Resident and Fellow Committee (RFC) at RSNA’s Annual Meeting held last week in Chicago.
As Chair, Raybon will serve a two-year term in which she will be responsible for connecting with trainees across the country, identifying what issues they face and how RSNA can help them. She will also lead bi-annual RFC committee meetings and will oversee the RFC’s Program, Communication, Radiographics, Medical Student Outreach, and Diversity and Inclusion subcommittees.
“I'm humbled and excited to work with the many talented residents and medical students on the RFC,” said Raybon. “Our diverse committee has members from across the country and around the globe, and I can't wait to learn from them and see where their ideas take us this year.”
Comprised of 24 members from the United States, Canada and Germany, as well as faculty advisors and ACR and Board liaisons, the RFC’s goal is to promote RSNA programs for trainees, provide input on curriculum and career advancement for trainees, and more. Raybon says this is primarily accomplished through the RFC’s subcommittees.
Prior to her role as Chair, she served a one-year term as RFC Vice Chair and Program Subcommittee Chair under the direction of now Vanderbilt Neuroradiology fellow Courtney Tomblinson, M.D.
“I’m grateful for the many ways Dr. Tomblinson has prepared me for this role,” said Raybon. “Through the cultivation of a strong mentor-mentee relationship while she was RFC Chair and Chief Resident at Mayo, she has taught me both through her example and through countless conversations how to lead. She lead the RFC through service, personal connection, and by empowering others. Thanks to her outstanding work, the RFC is poised to continue high achievement over the next two years.”
Raybon earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia and completed her internship year in general surgery at University of California, San Francisco. She is expected to complete her residency training in June 2020.
