Vanderbilt Radiology Faculty, Trainees Attend RSNA 2018

Last month, faculty and trainees from the Department of Radiology attended the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2018 Annual Meeting where they presented scientific papers and educational exhibits, and participated in a variety of educational courses. 

Hosted each year at Chicago’s McCormick Place, RSNA brings together more than 50,000 radiologists and health care professionals from around the world for six days of educational programming and networking. The Society reported that more than 1,700 scientific papers, 1,900 education exhibits and 431 education courses were presented at this year’s meeting. Two scientific papers, 11 education exhibits and four education courses were accepted for presentation by Vanderbilt Radiology members. A comprehensive list of Vanderbilt Radiology’s presentations is provided below:

In addition, a number of faculty and trainees were recognized by RSNA for their research, leadership and ongoing commitment to radiology research and education. Sundaram and Sandeep Arora, M.B.B.S., Assistant Professor of Radiology., were awarded RSNA Research & Education Foundation grants, which went into effect earlier this year. Tomblinson and third-year DR resident Courtney Raybon, M.D., were awarded Member-in-Training stipends to attend the meeting as a result of their participation in the RSNA RFC. Raybon was named RFC Chair, succeeding Tomblinson, at this year’s meeting. Second-year DR resident Ryan Adams, M.D., participated in RSNA’s Introduction to Academic Radiology Program. And, lastly, Seth Smith, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Radiology, was presented with the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research Distinguished Investigator Award.  

“I couldn’t be more impressed by the presence our department had at RSNA this year,” said Reed Omary, M.D., M.S., Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair. “From the awards received to the research shared, it’s a real testament to the dedication our faculty and trainees have to advancing the field of radiology.”

In addition to the educational forums at the meeting, several networking opportunities were available to attendees, including the department’s annual RSNA Reception. More than 50 current and former Vanderbilt Radiology faculty and trainees attended the event co-hosted by the Vanderbilt Radiology Society and Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association. 

“Our annual reception provides an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with our department,” said Stephanie Kurita, M.D., Assistant Professor of Radiology and Director of Alumni Relations and Development. “It’s an event that many of us look forward to each year while attending RSNA.”
