Professor John Gore honored by Zhejiang University

John Gore, Ph.D., director of the Vanderbilt University Institute for Imaging Science (VUIIS), was named an honorary professor of Zhejiang University, China, during his recent visit to Zhejiang University School of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science.

Gore, who delivered a lecture titled “The Emerging Role of Biomedical Imaging,”  was presented the Certificate of Honorary Professor by Song Yonghua, executive vice president of Zhejiang University.

Located in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang University is a national university and one of China’s oldest institutions of higher learning, having been founded in 1897.

Gore is University Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, the Hertha Ramsey Cress Chair in Medicine, professor of Biomedical Engineering, professor of Physics and Astronomy and professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics.

Professor John Gore of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering Appointed Honorary Professor at Zhejiang University

On the afternoon of Oct. 17, Professor John Gore, academician of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and Dean of Brain Imaging Academy in Vanderbilt University, was appointed as Honorary Professor of Zhejiang University during his visiting to Zhejiang University School of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science. Executive vice president of Zhejiang University, Song Yonghua awarded John Gore the Certificate of Honorary Professor.

John Gore is an internationally renowned expert in magnetic resonance imaging technology. Because of his outstanding contributions to the development of MRI and other imaging technology as well as its applications in medicine and neuroscience, he was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, being one of the only two academicians of MRI technology in U.S. National Academy of Engineering.

Invited by Professor Zhong Jianhui from School of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science and Professor Anna Wang Roe from Zhejiang University Interdisciplinary Institute of Neuroscience and Technology, Professor John Gore visited Zhejiang University from Oct. 15 to Oct. 17. During his visit, Professor Gore gave a lecture entitled “The Emerging Role of Biomedical Imaging”, explaining the history and future of biomedical imaging technology development from the perspective of international imaging technology experts. The lecture focused on the most potential technology of MRI technology and its application prospects in medicine, life sciences, neuroscience and other fields.
