Radiology Welcomes New Communications & Design Team

This month, the Department of Radiology launched their new Communications and Design Team and welcomed Krystyna Barnard and Christy Latshaw as Communications Coordinators to lead the initiative.

The team was created out of the vision of Reed Omary, M.D., Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair for the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. Together, Krystyna and Christy will manage the internal and external communications for the department, and will implement a strategic communications plan to enhance the department’s visibility within the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) network and in the radiological sciences industry.

“We are so thrilled that Christy and Krystyna have joined Vanderbilt Radiology,” said Dr. Reed Omary. “They bring a powerful blend of technical expertise, enthusiasm, energy and creativity to our Department.”

Krystyna Barnard has more than five years of experience in print and digital communications, public relations and marketing. She relocated to Nashville from Washington, D.C., where she completed her master's in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown University, and worked on the internal, digital and crisis communications teams for a global marketing communications agency.

Christy Latshaw graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, and brings with her more than eight years of experience in digital communications, content creation, media relations and event marketing. Her expertise also includes strategic planning and project management.

The Communications and Design Team will not only provide communication and design services for the department, but will also bring new creative ideas and approaches to the way the Department communicates. By combining innovation, technology and creativity, the team aims to transform how the Department engages with their patients, faculty and peers, and ultimately influence how medical departments communicate.

“Now operating in a fast-paced startup mode, they are helping develop a design studio that combines brainstorming, digital media services, and a makerspace, including a green screen and 3D printer,” added Dr. Omary. “We can’t wait for them to help fuel our innovation across VUMC and the nation.”
