The Council of Early Career Investigators in Imaging (CECI2) have chosen Mary Ellen Koran, MD, PhD, for the 2022-2023 CECI2 Level 2 Program.
The program, which has different levels of participation, was established by the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research in 2014. It offers newer researchers the chance to learn about funding, advocacy, career development, and other various research opportunities.
Dr. Koran participated in the first round of this program and was invited to join Level 2 after meeting the metrics for “high engagement and participation” in Level 1. Her selection comes with new opportunities for networking and experiencing the world of research.
Later this spring, Dr. Koran will travel to Washington to take part in Level-2.
According to The Academy, CECI2 Level 2 involves many in-person learning and networking opportunities. Participants attend the Medical Imaging Technology Showcase (MedTech) on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, visit the National Institute of Health campus to meet with NIH Program Officers, and attend the Annual Capitol Hill Fly-in Day to meet with the investigator’s Members of Congress.
The Academy is an advocacy organization which commits itself to "advancing research in medical imaging to promote the health and well-being of patients." It does this by engaging the community of imagers and researchers through education, communication, and shared experiences.
The CECI2 program has reached over 130 new investigators since its founding. As the experience continues to grow, its goal is to increase opportunities for engagement and grow its member network.
