Simone Montoya Named APD for Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency Program

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to share that Simone Montoya, MD, has joined the department’s Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency (IR) program’s leadership team as Assistant Program Director (APD), effective October 1. Dr. Montoya, a highly experienced neuroradiologist, joined VUMC Radiology faculty this August.

“I am very excited to join the department and to assume the role of APD,” Dr. Montoya says. “I look forward to contributing to the education of the residents, but also to work with others outside of the Neuroradiology section whom I would not otherwise interact on a regular basis.”

In her role, Dr. Montoya will work alongside Reza Imani, MD, Program Director, and Nicholas Voutsinas, MD, RPVI, Assistant Program Director.

“We are excited to have Dr. Montoya join our IR residency leadership team,” Dr. Imani says. “As a fellowship-trained neuroradiologist with a background in medical education, Dr. Montoya offers our team a unique perspective. In her new role, she will help foster the professional development of our IR residents, particularly during their years of core diagnostic radiology training. In addition, she will help guide and grow our training program as it continues to advance in the future.”

“I’m grateful that Dr. Montoya has agreed to step into this APD role,” says Daniel Brown, MD, FSIR, Chair of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. “She’s made it clear from the beginning that resident education is one of her top priorities. She’ll be an asset to the program.”

Dr. Montoya agrees that her skillset will bring a distinctive vision to the APD role in IR.

“There is so much overlap in the space of image-guided procedures,” Dr. Montoya says. “I believe that it is imperative for interventional radiologists to have a strong foundation in diagnostic imaging, which is what will set them apart from other specialists. I hope to provide a bridge between the diagnostic and interventional worlds so that our residents are supported all around.”
