Eben Rosenthal Receives Secondary Appointment in Radiology

Eben Rosenthal, MD, Professor and Chair for the Department of Otolaryngology, has received a secondary appointment as Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. Dr. Rosenthal holds many appointments in the university, including the Barry and Amy Baker Chair in Laryngeal, Head and Neck Research, and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Otolaryngology. He is also a Professor for the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology.

Joanna Shechtel Joins ABMRS Board of Directors

Joanna Shechtel, MD, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, has been made a member of the Board of Directors with the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS). Dr. Shechtel, who serves as the Magnetic Resonance Medical Director (MRMD) for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, joins this not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to improve the safety of medical and research magnetic resonance (MR) environments.

VUMC Radiology Faculty Publish Article on Diversity and Well-Being in ‘Academic Radiology’

A new publication in Academic Radiology highlights the relationship between diversity and well-being, noting that these two things work together and should not be treated as separate entities. “The Intersection of Diversity and Well-Being” was accepted for publication in late February, and provides information to creating a workspace that allows for all voices to be heard in radiology.

Melissa Hilmes Published in ‘Diabetes Care’ After Decade-Long Collaboration

Thanks to a decade-long, multi-organization collaboration, a new publication aims to examine how insulin deficiency can impact the size of a pancreas. “Insulin Deficiency From Insulin Gene Mutation Leads to Smaller Pancreas” was recently published in Diabetes Care, and used MRI to measure pancreas volume and shape in a family with an autosomal-dominant insulin gene mutation that results in insulin deficiency similar in severity to that of type 1 diabetes but without autoimmunity.

Lauren Rankin Joins VUMC Radiology as Chief Business Officer

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is happy to share that Lauren Rankin, JD, will be joining as our new Chief Business Officer in April. She will succeed Richard Pierce, MBA, CMPE, who retired in July 2022, and Kate Gibson, CPA, Associate Director, Academic, Research and Professional Enterprise, who has been serving as Interim CBO since Pierce’s departure.
