Dr. Maureen Gannon is a native of Queens, New York. She received her B.S. in Biology from Molloy College and her M.S. in Biology from Adelphi University. She then received her Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Anatomy from Cornell University Medical College in New York City. Dr. Gannon moved to Nashville in 1996 to pursue postdoctoral training in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University. She was recruited to the faculty in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine in 2001. Dr. Gannon holds secondary appointments in the Departments of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics and Cell & Developmental Biology. She became a full professor in 2016. Additionally, in 2016 Dr. Gannon helped develop, and now directs, a Mid-Career Leadership Development Program for Associate Professor level faculty in the School of Medicine. She was appointed the inaugural Associate Dean for Faculty Development at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in September 2019.
