On Monday, Oct. 16, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Office for Diversity Affairs will present “Hidden VUMC Figures,” a tribute to employees who have made significant long-term contributions to the Medical Center, often behind-the-scenes.

Vanderbilt’s chief diversity officer continues to break racial barriers

David Gordon, M.D., dean of the University of Akron College of Health Professions, will speak from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, in conjunction with the 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Series at Vanderbilt. Gordon will speak in Light Hall, Room 208. Lunch will be provided for the first 100 attendees.

The 2016 keynote speaker for the Levi Watkins, Jr., M.D. Memorial Lecture will be Kevin B. Johnson, M.D., M.S., senior vice president for health information technology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor and chair of biomedical informatics, and professor of pediatrics.

On September 29, 2016, Brian Williams, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Texas Southwestern, will speak on the topic "Violence in America As Viewed Through the Lens of a Trauma Surgeon: July 7, 2016-Dallas ,Texas." Williams is also a trauma surgeon at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The lecture will be held in 208 Light Hall.

Chancellor Zeppos welcomes Dr. André Churchwell as the 2015/2016 Vanderbilt faculty Chancellor’s Lecturer as he shares personal insights on the role of art in all its creative forms and its relationship to applied physics in the solution of humankind’s medical woes.

They target blacks and Hispanics who might never have considered becoming a doctor.

Charles and Andrew Manlove are two of the largely unsung African-American lab technicians who contributed greatly to noted clinical research endeavors here at Vanderbilt and elsewhere.
