Background

Reid Longmuir, M.D. is now seeing neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma patients at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Longmuir joins us from the University of Iowa, where he has been a faculty member since 2008.

Dr. Longmuir is a native Iowan, receiving both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Iowa, achieving distinction as Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Longmuir also completed his residency in ophthalmology at University followed by fellowships in both neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma.In 2008, Dr. Longmuir was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at University of Iowa, splitting his time between campus and the VA Medical Center, and specializing in both neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma. In addition, Longmuir served as the medical student clerkship director for ophthalmology at Iowa from 2010-2014.

Longmuir’s main focus and interests include unexplained vision loss and optic neuropathies, as well as medical student and resident education.

Dr. Singleton is a comprehensive ophthalmologist providing superior general eye care to both adults and children. She is also interested in eliminating healthcare disparities in medicine and provides eye care to the underserved communities in Nashville, Tennessee. Her particular interests are in diagnosis and medical management of refractive errors, cornea disorders, cataracts, glaucoma, minor cosmetic and therapeutic eyelid problems, diabetic eye disease, ocular trauma, and strabismus. Background

Dr. Brantley joined the Vanderbilt Eye Institute in 2010 with a focus on Inherited Retinal Diseases and as Director of the Center for Ocular Pharmacogenomics. He specializes in caring for patients with retinal degenerative diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt macular dystrophy, and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Brantley’s clinical research program investigates the association between gene variants and disease susceptibility as well how genetics influences response to treatment.

Background

Dr. Kim is a nationally recognized expert in the medical and surgical management of retinal disease and uveitis, including the use and monitoring of systemic immunosuppression. Dr. Kim also actively engages in basic, translational, and clinical research. Dr. Kim is a frequent invited lecturer at major ophthalmic meetings and has authored or co-authored over 230 journal articles and published abstracts. He is a leading authority on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the treatment of ocular inflammation and on the emergence of antibiotic resistance.

Background

Edward Cherney, M.D. provides retina specialty care at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. He sees patients at Vanderbilt’s main campus in Nashville, and our Franklin and Murfreesboro locations.

Dr. Cherney joined the Vanderbilt Eye Institute in 2009 after spending a number of years in solo private practice. While in private clinical practice, Dr. Cherney kept an academic aspect to his practice in volunteering his time teaching at the University of Southern California, at the Jules Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles and at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. In 1994, he co-founded the largest annual medical conference in Russia called the White Nights Ophthalmology Congress. He is also one of the founding Board Members of  the Inter-Regional Association of Ophthalmologists, Russia. This is Russia's first non-governmental, non-commercial medical association. He is presently an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Cherney’s clinical interests include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment surgery, and treating sequelae of ocular trauma.

Dr. Reddy is originally from Murfreesboro, TN. He received his bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed his internship in General Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by an Ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri Kansas City, and a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Vanderbilt University.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Reddy has a particular interest in medical education and in the medical and surgical management of pediatric cataracts and strabismus. He is excited to be seeing patients in his native Tennessee.

Dr. Sobel is originally from Florida. She received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and her medical degree from University of California at San Francisco. She completed her residency training at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia and then a two–year oculoplastics fellowship program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Prior to joining Vanderbilt Eye Institute, she was director of the division of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at Boston Medical Center/Boston University where she was an assistant professor and taught medical students and residents.  Dr. Sobel has been a medical columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer and US News and World Report. She has contributed to NPR and New England Journal of Medicine and is an active contributor to scientific publications. She is board certified in Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
