The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to announce that Christine Dove, MD, has been appointed to a new leadership position as the Director of Radiology Fellowship Programs.
In the brand new role, Dr. Dove will help increase communication between our eight fellowship programs. While each fellowship offers unique opportunities and insights into radiology, the goal is to unify the various programs’ directors, fellows and administrative teams.
“I’m looking forward to serving in this new role,” Dr. Dove says. “It’s a great opportunity to build connections between our fellowships at all levels.”
As Dr. Dove explains, much of VUMC Radiology’s strength comes from its clinical diversity. Due to the expansive nature of our fellowship programs, even the physical location of our fellows ranges widely: from the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital to the Vanderbilt Breast Center. Historically, fellows may not have had many opportunities to build relationships with doctors in other programs.
But while many fellows are in decidedly different programs, much of their experiences are similar: many are participating in an intense year-long program, are new to the institution/Nashville, and have common stressors, successes, and challenges. By connecting our fellows to each other, we’ll increase their connection to VUMC Radiology as a whole—and therefore deepen our sense of community—both clinically and behind the scenes.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Dove has assumed the reins of this inaugural leadership position,” says Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Chair and Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. “She is the perfect leader to help align our fellowship programs, build camaraderie amongst the fellows, and improve the learning environment across our department.”
Dr. Dove’s initiative is also intended to encourage a free flow of ideas throughout our programs and streamline administrative processes.
In her leadership role, she will also help to ensure our fellowship directors are aligned on information disseminated from the GME office, which now has a level of oversight over all of our fellowship programs.
Ultimately, Dr. Dove plans to impart a more uniform experience for all our fellows. This will include a collective orientation, social events, a non-interpretive lecture series, and a fellows case conference.
