Second-year interventional radiology (IR) resident Casey Cable, M.D., has been selected as a resident scholarship recipient for the 13th annual Global Embolization Symposium and Technologies (GEST) meeting May 9-12 in New York City.
Designed for diagnostic and interventional radiologists, oncologists, nurses and technologists, GEST 2019 will feature a series of lectures, abstract presentations, live demonstrations and hands-on workshops by the industry’s leading physicians that highlight the latest advancements in IR, embolization and ablative therapies.
"I believe interventional oncology is the most exciting aspect of IR, so I am truly excited for the opportunity to learn how a variety of interventional procedures are performed by experts from the more than 50 countries expected to be in attendance," said Cable. "I am especially looking forward to participating in the hands-on workshops directed at improving procedural skills."
As a GEST Scholar, Cable will be required to attend a series of GEST activities and to develop brief summaries that detail key takeaways of those activities for publication in a post-symposium report by GEST.
"This scholarship will not only offer Casey exposure to some of the latest advancements in embolization and interventional oncology, but also allow him to meet national and international leaders in our field in a small group setting," said Ryan Muller, M.D., Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and IR Residency and Fellowship Program Director. "These meetings spark an inevitable excitement about the innovative opportunities within IR."
Department of Radiology faculty Daniel Brown, M.D., FSIR, has also been named invited faculty for the symposium, and will speak on management of small renal tumors with thermal ablation treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer to the liver based on outcomes of recent trials, including SIRFLOX, FOXFIRE and FOXFIRE Global.
