Congratulations to MSK Fellow and incoming faculty member Katie Van Schaik, MD, PhD, MA, who was recently awarded the Hot Topic Grant from the Society of Skeletal Radiology! Dr. Van Schaik's proposal, "Identifying Epigenetic Factors Associated with Early Osteoporosis that Result in Imaging Findings Detected by Deep Learning Techniques” was announced as the winning grant at the SSR 2024 annual meeting. The committee commented that Dr. Van Schaik's project was chosen because of its potential to have a broad impact on patient care.

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is pleased to welcome a familiar face back to our department! Geoff Wile, MD, has rejoined our Abdominal Imaging section as an Associate Professor. Dr. Wile comes back to VUMC after working as a general radiologist for a private practice in North Carolina for the past few years. He will work remotely for our team from North Carolina.

VUMC Radiology is pleased to welcome Aleksandra 'Nina' Miucin, MD, to the department as an Assistant Professor and member of the MSK Radiology section! Dr. Miucin joins us from Arizona, where she's worked as an attending radiologist for the Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix. She will work remotely for our department from Arizona. A graduate of American University of Antigua College of Medicine, Dr. Miucin completed her diagnostic radiology residency at Creighton University before going on to a fellowship in MSK imaging at Duke.

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is extremely proud to share that the extraordinary research of the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS) has landed Vanderbilt University at #14 on the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research’s annual rankings of NIH funding for 2023. This ranking is an improvement from last year, when VU came in 16th place in the nation for radiology.
