Daniel Brown, MD, FSIR, professor and interim chair of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, has been named as the department’s next chair. His appointment is effective immediately.

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to share that Bennett Landman, PhD, Stevenson Chair of Engineering, Professor and Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Principal Scientist of ImageVU, has been elected to the 2024 College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), along with three other Vanderbilt University engineering faculty members, who are each experts in engineering, surgery and chemistry/biomolecular science.

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is excited to share that Assistant Professor Kristin Poole O’Grady, PhD, has received two national grants totaling more than $2 Million to aid in her research in spinal cord MRI for patients with progressive Multiple Sclerosis. 

Congratulations to Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director Erin Cooke, MD, and Neuroradiology Fellowship Program Director Courtney Tomblinson, MD, for being inducted into the Academy for Excellence in Education! Dr. Cooke, Dr. Tomblinson and five other VUMC faculty joined the academy during the Annual Chapman Dinner. 

Congratulations to MSK Fellow and incoming faculty member Katie Van Schaik, MD, PhD, MA, who was recently awarded the Hot Topic Grant from the Society of Skeletal Radiology! Dr. Van Schaik's proposal, "Identifying Epigenetic Factors Associated with Early Osteoporosis that Result in Imaging Findings Detected by Deep Learning Techniques” was announced as the winning grant at the SSR 2024 annual meeting. The committee commented that Dr. Van Schaik's project was chosen because of its potential to have a broad impact on patient care.
