VUMC Radiologists, VUSM Students Co-Author Guide on Ultrasound Procedures

In a new multi-institution collaboration, VUMC Radiology faculty worked with doctors and students from medical schools and centers across the country to publish a comprehensive guide on using ultrasound in lower-extremity procedures. “Ultrasound-Guided Joint Interventions of the Lower Extremity,” published in Skeletal Radiology, offers a better understanding of the role ultrasound plays in lower extremity joint interventions.

Thank You Dr. Grzeszczak for 22 Years of Service

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences would Like to thank Ewa Grzeszczak, MD, Associate Professor, for over 22 years of service to Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee. On Thursday, friends and colleagues joined together to celebrate her retirement. Dr. Grzeszczak's last day will be December 31.

Ashish Patel Earns MBA from University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Congratulations to Ashish Patel, MD, MBA, MS, RMSK, for graduating with his MBA from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Patel received his diploma on Friday, December 9. “I was at a point in my career where my ambitions outpaced my abilities,” says Dr. Patel. “I felt pursuing an MBA would help me become a more effective leader and communicator.” Now, Dr. Patel is already busy applying new leadership skills to his work in medicine, like when he worked to improve ED and radiology operations through an interdepartmental workshop.

Kelly von Beck Wins First Place for Poster Presentation at SRU Annual Meeting

A senior Vanderbilt University School of Medicine student took home first place for her poster presentation at this year’s annual Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound conference in Phoenix. Kelly von Beck placed first in the educational category of the member-in-training poster competition at SRU 2022. The project, titled “Wash Away Your Troubles With Bubbles: Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound-Guided Procedures,” was presented in-person at the conference by von Beck.

Catherine Phillips Elected as SRU Fellow at Annual Meeting

The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound elected VUMC’s Catherine Phillips, MD, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Medical Director of Ultrasound, as an SRU Fellow at its annual conference in Phoenix. At the conference, Dr. Phillips also presented a fantastic Plenary Session on the Ovarian/Adnexal Reporting and Data System.

Shi Huang Receives Secondary Appointment in Radiology

VUMC Radiology is pleased to announce that Shi Huang, PhD, Research Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, has received a secondary appointment as a Research Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences within the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Christos Constantinidis Receives Secondary Appointment in Radiology

Christos Constantinidis, PhD, Stevenson Chair and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has received a secondary appointment as Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. “I am delighted to be joining the Radiology family at VUMC," says Dr. Constantinidis. "It has been great to collaborate with outstanding colleagues in the department and have access to the world-class facilities and resources. I am really grateful for the opportunity to now have a secondary appointment in the department. I am looking forward to new opportunities and joint projects.”

Xinqiang Yan Receives Secondary Appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Congratulations to Xinqiang Yan, PhD, Research Assistant Professor for Radiology and Radiological Sciences, who has received a secondary appointment as Research Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the School of Engineering. “I am thrilled to receive the secondary appointment from the ECE department,” says Dr. Yan. “I will try my best to 'bridge' students in VU electrical engineering with MRI instrument development."
