Jose Maldonado Joins as Assistant Professor

VUMC Radiology welcomes Jose Maldonado, MD, MHA, to our team as an Assistant Professor with our Cardiothoracic Imaging section.Dr. Maldonado is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree and completed his diagnostic radiology residency. He attended the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology with Washington University at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic imaging. 

VUMC Radiology Researchers Published in 'Magnetic Resonance in Medicine'

Three seminal articles published in Magnetic Resonance in Medicine mark a landmark achievement in preclinical imaging science. These works, authored by an international consortium of 58 scientists, including Research Assistant Professor Kurt Schilling, PhD, Stevenson Chair of Engineering Bennett Landman, PhD, Associate Professor Adam Anderson, PhD, and Research Assistant Professor Kevin Harkins, PhD, offer comprehensive guidelines for using diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) in preclinical research. 

Kim Sandler Receives FCRI Grant from American College of Radiology

Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences Kim Sandler, MD, has been awarded an ACR Fund for Collaborative Research in Imaging (FCRI) grant for her project title "Evaluation of Machine Learning Algorithms for Lung Cancer Risk and All-Cause Mortality Prediction in a Non-Lung Screening Cohort." Dr. Sandler will serve as co-PI with Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering Yuankai Huo, PhD. 

Melissa Hilmes Promoted to Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is excited to share the promotion of Melissa Hilmes, MD, to Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.Dr. Hilmes, who also holds an appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, has been with our Pediatric Radiology section since 2007 and currently serves as the department's Director of Medical Student Education. 

Rifat Wahab Named Director of Community Breast Imaging

VUMC Radiology has named Associate Professor Rifat Wahab, DO, as the Director of Breast Imaging for our Community Radiology section. In this new role, Dr. Wahab will lead our department’s efforts in providing breast imaging services to our three regional hospitals, as well as establishing our remote breast imaging practice. “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead our community breast imaging team,” says Dr. Wahab. “Remote diagnostics is a new horizon in breast imaging, and I am excited to bring Vanderbilt Radiology to the forefront.”

Shanna Matalon Joins as Associate Professor

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to welcome Shanna Matalon, MD, who joins our Abdominal Imaging section as an Associate Professor. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where she received a bachelors in neuroscience, Dr. Matalon attended medical school at Boston University School of Medicine. After graduating, she went on to complete a radiology residency and fellowship in abdominal imaging and intervention at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
