Study reveals biomarker of post-injury spinal cord function

Vanderbilt University researchers have demonstrated, for the first time in a primate model, that injury disrupts neural signaling in the spinal cord and that these changes can be measured non-invasively with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Deitte named vice chair of Education in Radiology

Radiology education expert Lori Deitte, M.D., has joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center as vice chair of Education and associate professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. Deitte comes to Vanderbilt from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, where she served as professor of Radiology, Graduate Medical Education Clinical Milestone Liaison, fourth-year medical student Radiology Clerkship director and fourth-year medical student Radiology advisor. Previously, she served as the Radiology Residency Program director.

Radiology Welcomes the Return of Dr. C.E. Smith

C.E. Smith, M.D., has recently joined the Department of Radiology as Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences in our outpatient section. C.E. will be rotating through Vanderbilt Images Services at our locations in Belle Meade, Cool Springs, One Hundred Oaks and Hillsboro Imaging locations.  Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, C.E. received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Stanford. He came to Vanderbilt for medical school and stayed on to complete his residency in radiology and a fellowship in neuroradiology.

Undergrad recipient of Medical Student Award at Annual AUR Conference

Nikita Lakomkin, an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt, has won the 2015 Henry Goldberg Medical Student Award from the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) for his work on CT biomarkers of cancer treatment response. The award will be presented during the AUR 63rd Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, April 14-17, 2015.
