Athletic Training Residency

The mission of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s (VUMC) Athletic Training (AT) Residency Program is to provide a comprehensive educational and clinical program that advances the medical and procedural knowledge of the athletic trainer in an interdisciplinary orthopedic practice setting.

Residency Specialty Area: Orthopaedics

Program Goals:

  1. To develop the AT Residents knowledge and skills of the orthopedic practice to the level of an advanced clinician founded in evidence-based practice
  2. To enhance the education of the AT resident through inter-professional, didactic, and scholarly activities in orthopedics practice
  3. To integrate the AT Resident as part of the orthopedic health care team through a commitment to self-learning and a professionalism dedicated to teamwork 
  4. To inspire the AT Resident to be lifelong learnersas part of an evolving healthcare system focused on optimal patient outcomes

Policies and Procedures 

  • Employment Status:
    • 12 Month Position (July 1 start date) with Vanderbilt University Medical Center
  • Full-Time Athletic Trainer Position with salary and benefits
  • Will be primary Athletic Trainer in clinical orthopaedic setting across multiple specialties and providers
  • Will be involved in scholarly activities including clinical conferences, research, and journal clubs. 
  • Will be involved in continuing education programs as a learner and a presenter. 
  • Will be involved in sports coverage at secondary schools and professional affiliations. 
  • Will be involved in Orthopedic Urgent Care – casting, DME
  • Employee requirements:
    • BOC & BLS up to date and in good standing 
    • TN Athletic Training License 
    • All VUMC mandated employment and onboarding requirements
