Our high surgical volume and highly complex cases make us leaders in innovative, multi-disciplinary clinical care and research. The Vanderbilt Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology includes four faculty with nearly 70 years of combined experience who use their surgical expertise and clinical knowledge to provide compassionate, thoughtful and evidence-guided cancer care — and exceptional, hands-on training to our residents and fellows.
Our Research
Our primary research interest is studying the oncologic, functional and patient-reported outcomes of patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma. Currently, we are prospectively seeking to improve the clinical outcome and patient experience of patients with sarcoma by studying the following:
- The efficacy of an enhanced recovery after surgery perioperative pain management pathway to reduce opioid consumption
- The efficacy of a shortened 5-day hypofractionated neoadjuvant radiation protocol instead of typical longer courses
- The use of machine learning to better understand advanced imaging when making the diagnosis of musculoskeletal tumors
