New program director, Byron Stephens:
Bryon Stephens, MD, MSCI, is the new director for the Orthopaedics Residency Program. Previously he served as the program’s assistant director for two years.
Stephens is Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery; and Division Chief of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery. He joined Vanderbilt in 2016. Stephens won the Kenneth D. Johnson resident teaching award in 2020.
Some measures of our residency program’s recent and ongoing success:
- Residents scored in the 99th percentile as a program on the Orthopaedic In-Training Exam in 2022.
- Our residents continue to match into top fellowship programs around the country.
- More than 50 rotating medical students from throughout the U.S. and 1,000 fourth-year medical students applied to our program.
- In the 2021–2022 academic year, residents’ work was shared in 33 publications.
- In the 2023–2024 academic year, we will be adding another residency spot and matching a sixth resident.
