In recognition of significant hands-on contributions to health information technology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, radiologist and clinical informatics fellow Julie Bauml, MD, and internal medicine specialist Aileen Wright, MD, instructor, Department of Biomedical Informatics, have received 2023 Physician Builder Awards.

Mary Ellen Koran Receives Secondary Appointment in Otolaryngology

Congratulations to Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences Mary Ellen Koran, MD, PhD, for receiving a secondary appointment as an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. "I'm thankful for this appointment in Otolaryngology," says Dr. Koran. "I'm grateful to Dr. Eben Rosenthal for his research mentorship and for the collaborations with the OHNS faculty."  Dr. Koran joined our nuclear medicine section as faculty in 2021 after graduating from Vanderbilt's Medical Scientist Training Program, where she earned her MD and PhD.

Shannon Taylor Wins at ISMRM X-Nuclei Workshop in Marseille

The International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine X-Nuclei workshop was recently held in Marseille, France, and recognized one VUIIS student for their work in sodium MRI techniques. Shannon Taylor, a PhD student in biomedical engineering, took first place for her presentation “Tissue Sodium is High in Fat and Fibrosis of Human Unilateral Lymphedema.” Her research focuses on investigating lymphedema, a condition she says is understudied.

Cam Henry to Stay with VUMC Radiology as Fellow and Faculty

VUMC Radiology is happy to announce that fourth-year diagnostic radiology resident Cam Henry, MD, will be staying with the department as a Cardiothoracic Fellow. After his fellowship, Dr. Henry will then join our faculty as an Assistant Professor.

Following her fellowship, Dr. Miller will join our Emergency Radiology section as an Assistant Professor.

John Gore Named Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association

Congratulations to John Gore, PhD, for being named a fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association. The AAIA is an organization that aims to bring scientists and business professionals together to develop broad AI industries. This includes medicine, energy, transportation, computing, communication, robotics, education, finance, agriculture and more. Dr. Gore, who serves as the Director of the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science, has authored and contributed to several studies involving artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Virginia Planz Named Section Chief of Body Imaging

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is excited to announce that Virginia Planz, MD, will be the new Section Chief of Body Imaging, effective immediately. Dr. Planz has previously served as the Director of Interventional CT and Ultrasound and worked as the Associate Section Chief with Chris Jones, MD.  

Heather Cole Receives 2023 Deitte INSPIRE Resident Award

Congratulations to second-year Diagnostic Radiology Resident Heather Cole, MD, who has been selected as this year’s Deitte INSPIRE Resident Award recipient. As part of the Deitte INSPIRE (INspiring Stories of Purposeful leadership In Radiology that Empower) Lectureship series, this award is given to a female radiology resident who exemplifies all the qualities of a leader.

Rachel Runde Joins VUMC Radiology as Assistant Professor

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is pleased to announce that Rachel Runde, MD, has joined our team as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Runde will join our Community Radiology and Body Imaging sections.  Most recently, Dr. Runde served as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
