Zhongliang Zu Receives R21 Grant: “Development of an Innovative Non-Invasive MR Imaging Technique for Assessing Membrane Lipids and Their Properties in Alzheimer’s Disease”

Zhongliang Zu, PhD, Research Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, has received a one-year R21 grant from the National Institute on Aging for $275,405 to fund his project, “Development of an Innovative Non-Invasive MR Imaging Technique for Assessing Membrane Lipids and Their Properties in Alzheimer’s Disease.” 

Allen Newton Receives R21 Grant: “Human Craniosynostosis Atlas (HuCA): Standardizing & Establishing a Public Repository for Genomic and Imaging Data”

Allen Newton, PhD, Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and Pediatrics, has received a two-year R21 grant, totaling $498,240, from the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research for his project, “Human Craniosynostosis Atlas (HuCA): Standardizing & Establishing a Public Repository for Genomic and Imaging Data."Dr. Newton will be working with his co-principal investigator, Michael Golinko, MD, FACS, FAAP, Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, and Neurosurgery, in his research. 

Rochelle Andreotti Named Medical Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

VUMC Radiology is proud to share that Rochelle Andreotti, MD, will take on the role of Medical Director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program.The endeavor is an accredited certificate program offered through Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Center for Programs in Allied Health. It prepares students with education and clinical training to become ultrasound technologists, also known as sonographers. This includes an 18-month demanding curriculum of didactic coursework along with a scanning lab and clinical practicum courses.

Peter Shanahan Joins VUMC Radiology as Assistant Professor

VUMC Radiology is happy to welcome back Peter Shanahan, MD, to our department! A graduate of our Diagnostic Radiology residency program and Neuroradiology fellowship, Dr. Shanahan returns to VUMC as an Assistant Professor in our Neuroradiology section. After finishing his fellowship in 2016, Dr. Shanahan went to work for Radiology Alliance in Nashville, where he stayed until coming back to Vanderbilt. 

Jennifer Huang Joins VUMC Radiology as Faculty and Assistant Program Director

VUMC Radiology is excited to welcome back Jennifer Huang, MD, MEd! Dr. Huang, who served as Chief Resident while at VUMC, joins our faculty as an Assistant Professor in Abdominal Imaging. She will also serve as an Assistant Program Director for our Diagnostic Radiology Residency. “I am excited to be returning as faculty to continue building on my educational experiences and to be able to work alongside a team of colleagues that has played such a pivotal role in shaping my career,” says Dr. Huang.

Jennifer Huang, M.D., M.Ed., is a radiologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center specializing in abdominal imaging. She received her bachelor’s degree from Duke University, double majoring in Biology and Evolutionary Anthropology and graduating cum laude. Dr. Huang continued her education at Vanderbilt University, obtaining her medical degree from the School of Medicine and her Master’s in Education from the Peabody College of Education and Human Development.  She completed her residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident and receiving numerous awards including Resident of the Year and the J. William Hillman Clinical Teaching Award. After attending Brigham and Women’s Hospital for fellowship training in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention, Dr. Huang returned to Nashville and joined the VUMC faculty in 2024 as an Assistant Professor. She also serves as the Assistant Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and as the Assistant Director of Medical Student Education.
