Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

The Osher Center at VUMC strives to create a culture and environment where our patients, providers, and staff feel welcome. We are committed to social justice, health equity, anti-racism and enhancing cultural competency. This commitment is reflected in the program-specific initiatives detailed throughout this site.

Respect for Diversity
Respect for diversity and for values different from one’s own is a central value of our professions, and a key value of the Osher Center at Vanderbilt. We engage in our own self-work towards being culturally responsive. We strive to be inclusive of all patients, faculty, staff, trainees, and affiliates to provide support and accommodations necessary to help everyone feel welcome and valued and to be able to engage fully in all aspects of our Center.

Land Acknowledgement
We collectively acknowledge that Vanderbilt occupies the ancestral hunting and traditional Lands of the Cherokee, Shawnee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Creek peoples. We recognize, support, and advocate for the Indigenous individuals and communities who live here now, and for those forcibly removed from their Homelands. By offering this Land Acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty and will work to hold Vanderbilt more accountable to the needs of American Indian and Indigenous peoples.
